Difference Between Gooseneck And Bumper Pull Trailers

Choosing the right trailer can be a daunting task as you get a number of options to choose from. However, of all the choices, a bumper pull trailer and gooseneck trailer are considered the best-enclosed car trailers. Both these trailers have their own set of merits, hence, it is important to know the difference between them.

The main difference between a bumper pull trailer and a gooseneck trailer is the way they are attached to a vehicle. A bumper pull is attached using a ball hitch on the back bumper of a truck, motorhome, or SUV. A gooseneck, on the other hand, consists of a long “neck” that reaches over the back of the tailgate and slides over a ball hitch in the bed of the truck.

Bumper pulls are smaller and lighter in weight and therefore cost less than a gooseneck trailer.

Gooseneck trailers are longer, wider, and weigh more, hence they can belong without even destabilizing the towing vehicle. It means they can carry and tow more than a bumper pull trailer.

Gooseneck trailers need a truck and special equipment that a bumper pull trailer doesn’t.

If you do not have a truck or you want a smaller trailer, the bumper pull will be best for you as they can be easily towed behind an SUV or RV.

The towing capacity of a gooseneck trailer is more than that of a bumper pull trailer. So consider the size and weight of the trailer and then buy according to your towing needs.
